Anglican Rosary Prayers
This is a collection of some of the more frequently used prayers for the Anglican Rosary, and it is hoped that you will experiment with them as examples for your own prayer life. At first it may be helpful for you to use the established prayers in your practice, especially if you’re not accustomed to using the rosary, but you can always create your own prayers.
And we’d be very appreciative if you would share your favorite rosary prayers with us. Just send an email to withus@verizon.net and we’ll try to post them on this page so that others may use them. We’ll attribute the set of prayers to you by using your first name, last initial, and your location, but if you wish you may remain anonymous.
It is recommended that you pray the Anglican Rosary for three rounds, meaning that you would repeat the Cruciform and Weeks prayers three times around the rosary and then finish with the final Invitatory bead and the Cross/Crucifix prayers. That way you will have completed 100 prayers in total, which is in keeping with the tradition of the Eastern Orthodox Chotki (“Jesus Prayer Rope”), which has sets of 100 knots or beads, and that symbolizes completion and perfection. Additionally, praying for three rounds of the rosary is ideal for entering into a deeper state of prayer and relaxation.
You might also consider having your Anglican Rosary blessed by your priest, pastor, or spiritual director before you begin using it, which is an ancient tradition. Or you could just have your rosary placed upon the altar of your local church during one of your Sunday morning services. Either way, it is a sign of consecrating and empowering something for the use of God, and this could enhance your practice of prayer with the rosary. Please note that if you obtain an Anglican Rosary from Emmanuel Episcopal Church, it has already been blessed by a priest during a Sunday Holy Eucharist.
